I am reminded of a story the late Sonny Bono used to tell about how he got into politics. He owned a restaurant in Palm Springs and got into a dispute with the building authorities because his restroom was not up to code - he had failed to install a nonporous splash guard above the urinals up to about eye height. When the building inspector would not budge, Sonny said something to the effect of "if I could reach it that high, I wouldn't need to be in the restaurant business." He then ran for mayor on a platform of simplifying building codes.
